| Gravel Flow Technique. GFT is a variation of the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) developed in the early 1970's. The principle of NFT systems is that a balanced nutrient solution (salts and trace elements in solution) is made available to the plant root system as a 1 to 2 mm 'film'. |

| In most NFT systems, this is achieved
by flowing the solution down a closed gully without the use of a medium.
The plant root system is introduced to the film of nutrient solution through
an aperture in the lid of the gully.
GFT does away with the gully lid, and uses a granite chip medium in the gully. The use of this medium has several advantages.

line tray.
The commercial line trays are designed to be used in multiples. They come complete with the support table, and inlet manifolds designed to be joined together and supplied from a common tank using 20 mm ldpe piping. The outlet manifolds are designed to be joined together to return the nutrient to the tank using 25 mm ldpe piping. Each tray provides two square meters of growing space in two beds each 2000 mm x 500 mm For small commercial systems (up to 50 sq metre) the trays offer a viable alternative to the conventional pvc plastic ground lay GFT systems as described on our commercial ground lay systems page. |
